The Hills, Styrian Style
September 18, 2008
Yes, the title does show the interested reader my more shallow side... but I am a proud "The Hills" watcher. Yet, this adventure in the styrian hills was quite a different adventure, and had nothing whatsoever to do with the glam world.
I decided to make one last trip to the forests alone, again in search of the Lechner-Graben, which I found out, is a Valley that I have already visited. So I kind of followed a forest road, when all of a sudden I saw a deer stood three metres from me, staring at me and I kept staring at him. He was so beautiful, but no part of him moved, and I did not move either, for minutes on end. Even when I took a step toward him and murmured hello, he didn't move. But when I tried to pull out my camera, he jumped to life and ran away. It was a stunning ten minutes though, he had this big beautiful eyes and I still think he murmured hello back. :-)
Well, then I walked over this one hill, that l thought leads me back to the Rabensteintrack, which it didn't and then suddenly I found myself on my way to "Schneealm" which is totally far away, but I thought what the heck, you don't have to walk all way. It was a strange path, and so quiet at times, it felt a little spooky.
Next thing I know, I am apparently on an official peak at a thousand and something metres and there were a number of signs... and as I did have a strangely uncomfortable feeling, I decided to follow the path that said "Neuberg" on it. The path split again, one path was an extremely steep "road", (even though I can't imagine a jeep driving on it without turning over backwards, there were two wheel-tracks and lots of gras on it) leading right to the top of another mountain, or so it seemed and the other one downwards, towards a real, used road. Again, I had this very strange feeling, being alone in the forest, it being chilly, it being awfully quiet and having no net on the mobile can really give anyone the creeps. So I chose the more beaten track for once.
Still, I really wanted to get an "up-close" picture of the snowy mountain tops, that had changed from summer to winter within days. So I walked up that road, even got a few good pictures and some more of faraway mountain tops, where I didn't find out what those were. And then, I decided to climb another "peak"... my own Nathalian peak, because there was no sign, that anybody other than me, has claimed it. ;-)
Well, and then on my way back to the Village, I saw my dream house... Just the right mixture of civilisation and wilderness. Electricity and water, but no other people, no houses... just greens. And some other extremely cute houses, including one, I would buy immediately.... (if I had the money, a car to go to the city at times and a job that allowed you to live outside of the humdrum.)
