The lady in the interenet cafe wanted to take my picture. I thought what the heck I hardly have any pictures today. Too bad she didn't tell me the bra strap was showing. I guess that's better than other things. See the wine! This is my daily ritual.
Every once in a while a girl has to take it easy. So today was that day. I decided to head to the beautiful beaches of Paros. It is known as the Greek holiday resort. It is full of Greek families who come here to enjoy the beaches. It tells you a lot about a place when the local people from all the islands come and stay.
I headed out this morning after my breakfast and morning run. I can’t really call it a run as I didn’t make it more than twenty five minutes and that was at a very slow pace. Okay, so I won’t be too fast next Friday at soccer. I am a little heavier and a lot slower than three weeks ago. Red wine, great food and lots of heat will do that to a person. So I trotted along the beach and called it a workout. NOT!
Headed to the far end of the beach as it has the nicest lounge chairs and umbrellas.
It also happens to be right by a bar and restaurant. Not that any of them are far, but this one had it right there so I thought “Bonus!” Well it turns out that you don’t have to move from your chair. They come to you. Oh! Now I have died and gone to heaven the second time, or is that the 345th time here in Greece? So Beth is now a very happy camper. (Once again!)
Having my fresh watermelon juice.
Then this Greek woman says to me “I can see it is your first day in the sun, don’t worry you will colour up really quickly.” I give her the “LOOK” and say “Yes, I will be brown like you by the end of the day”. Okay, so I have been here three weeks, and I am still white. I can’t help it. Haven’t they heard of sensitive skin and skin cancer? Doesn’t she realize that I am very fragile and can blister? So I reapply the 30 + and move out into the sun. I’ll prove to her that this fair person can get brown.
It gets worse.
There is this nice couple walking down the beach. She comes up to me and asks me if I speak English. “Yes, I do” She says, “You are from Ireland”. NO! I am Canadian. The funny thing she is Irish and has been living in New Zealand for 30 years. So I guess I can fool even Irishmen. We ended up talking for a while and I am going to dinner with them tonight. But why on earth did she assume I speak English? Could it have been the white skin? You think?
Wish there was booze in it but "Yamas" anyway! I guess if I wanted alcohol they would have been more than happy. It is just that it was 10:30 in the morning. Even that is a little early for me.
After they left that is when I fell in love. He came, touched me and left. I never even got his name and as I watched him walk into the sunset (it wasn’t really sunset but it sounds better) I should have asked him his name. Just in case he wanted to see me again. Oh well, I will call him Yianniseeyou. Yianniseeyou wasn’t Greek, he was Asian. I think he was Thai but his sign said he was Chinese.
I won’t argue with him, but he was wonderful! So once again, Beth has fallen in love. Could life in Greece get any better?
Okay, could the view be any better. I want you to know I never moved from my lounge chair for one picture today. Just sat and clicked.
Tomorrow I am off to Mykonos. Apparently, there are two places that are musts for Greece. One is Santorini and the other is Mykonos. I will let you know if I agree. I know you know how I feel about Santorini but I will let you know if Mykonos meets my expectations. Boys and girls the days are numbered. I am wrapping up my Greek travel in a few short days. I cannot believe that I have been at this for almost a month. I am sure those of you who have followed religiously probably say “It’s about time” but I love every experience that I have had. So thanks for coming along.
