Day 4: Alesund - the city of Art Nouveau
July 10, 2007
In the night of January 23, 1904, practically the whole town was destroyed by fire (difficult to imagine how people of town survived until the end of strong Norwegian winter in temporary shelters and barracks). Then town was restored from ash using stone, brick and mortar. As result all the center of town is a great sample of Jugendstil/Art Nouveau, the modern (for the beginning of XX century) architectural style.
Turrets, spires and decorative ornamentation makes Alesund a kind of fairytale town
