Of bestfriends, new friends, bombs, and sunsets
Dearest Lolo,
How's it going up there? It's been such a long time now since we last talked, I can't believe it's been almost 13 years already. It just seemed not so long ago when you've been telling me and my cousins that you'd want to bring us to Corregidor. I was so excited about it, although I didn't tell you that the thought of riding a ship actually scared me a bit. I know we would have definitely made that trip, had you not had to say goodbye to us because your heart stopped beating from the complications that happened after the doctors took away that anneurism that grew in your heart's artery.
But guess what, finally, I was able to go there. Now I know the place where you were born and where you grew up. Nobody resides there now, as it had been already turned into a national park, with all the remains brought about by World War II are preserved. But don't worry, the government made a good job about this, the island is beautifully maintained.
They made this nice park dedicated to you and the other soldiers who fought with the Americans in the war to liberate the Philippines from the Japanese. Evenmore, they made this magnificent Pacific war memorial dome, where the sun shines on the altar thru a hole on the dome every May 6th, in remembrance of the day of the fall of Corregidor.
Seeing all of these and hearing the narration of our tour guides, I could never be more proud to be your granddaughter. We miss you, Lolo. I and my cousins are all grown up now. We've gone a long way already, I wish you could see where we are now...
Dearest li'l sis,
Lolo would've been proud.
My dearest kumares,
I could never be more thankful for this chance that we were able to go out of town together. It's been a long time since we last did something like this.I felt like we were back in highschool again going on a fieldtrip. Fourteen years down the road, we have our own separate lives now, with different priorities, but I am very glad that amidst the changing times, our friendship remains the same. Thank you for spending the day with me in Corregidor, it was short but the memories will last forever.
My dearest travbuddy friends,
You are the best!
To say that I had a great time in this trip would be an understatement. It was but just perfect that I've seen the most magnificent sunset in my whole life with you. I felt I was being too cheesy that I got too moved and asked for a group hug but when you hugged back I knew I found a new set of friends in you. Spending the night with you was pure fun -- the night tour inside the Malinta tunnel and our crazy videoke dinner turned drinking party. You are the best people to get drunk with, hehehe. Our pictures say it all.
Cheers to more travels and friendships!
Hugs,
Your coffeefairy
