Dordrecht, my beloved city.
Dordrecht is the oldest city of Holland, it has about 1000 monuments.
You can reach Dordt by train, then you can take the bus to the inner city, or you can walk, for 10 minutes.
Near the station , on the Spuiboulevard, is the VVV office, where you can buy a city route, called "Rondje Dordt", it shows you the most important sights of the inner city.
You also can take the Fast Ferry from Rotterdam, or the waterbus.
The atmosphere in Dordt is very lively, there are many shops, restaurants, cafés and people.
There`s a lot to do the whole year.
When you visit The Netherlands, you have to visit Dordrecht, its a must!
The most important building is The Big Church.
The famous tower of the Big Church has the largest Carillon of Europe, which consists of 64 bells.
You always hear the Carillon in the city and it sounds very nice.
The tower can be visit the whole year and after 275 steps pffff, you`ve a wonderful view at Dordt.
The inside of the church is also very beautiful, with the world famous organ.
The tower weights 12 million kilo.
Then you have the City Hall, build in 1383, the City Hall was first a covered market.
Also very important to see is the Old Harbour, guarded by the gate Groothoofdspoort.
It`s a very nice place to walk and enjoy the view at the river, or to eat and drink something.
In Dordrecht are much events to do every year, such as:
The yearly Christmas Market in December, the greatest market of Europe
Dordt in Steam, the greatest steam festival of Europe every 2 years.
Blue River festival, Wantijpop festival and a lot more.
I like to shop in Dordt on the Voorstraat which is the longest shop street of the Netherlands, the Bagijnhof, Drievriendenhof and in the other streets.
I often drink coffee in Talamini, I don`t like ice cream, but they say the ice creams there are delicious, even so is the coffee!
Talamini is across the Visbrug (fish bridge) on the Groenmarkt number 141
On the Visbrug is the state of Johan Cornelis de Witt.
I made a photo about it, also of the ice creams from Talamini, I think they thought I was so fond of it it, I should dream about it :-)
In the Vriesestraat there is a nice bakery where you can drink coffee and cake, or chocolate, very, very nice!
On the Vriesebrug ( the bridge ) you can take a fish to eat, or a Greece snack, 5 minutes further there is La Venezia, they also have delicious Italian ice creams!
There are a lot more restaurants, try it yourself!
On the internet sites of Dordrecht you can find a lot of information about Dordt
and when you want to know something you can always ask me.
I live near Dordrecht and wish everyone who come to visit Dordt a very pleasant stay, enjoy it!
