We arrived in the Tatras mountains of Slovakia this afternoon. We spent 2 dazs in Dubrovnik, Croatia, basically days at the beach, exploring the old city and its marble walls, went for a kayak trip around an island for an afternoon. VERY hot and VERY hilly. Manz islands in the area, we didnt have time to visit them, but we climbed up a massive hill overlooking the town near dusk one night and had a spectacular view of them. Lots and lots of tourists in the old town though, so we spent most of our time exploring everzthing else.
We spent two nights in Budapest. Really really liked budapest, even though every thing seemed to go wrong as soon as we arrived. We had rented a beautiful apartment overlooking the danube for dirt cheap. We were supposed to meet the landlord, but for some reason he completelz forgot, and endless calls to his cell phone turned up nothing. So with crayz hot temperatures, and emailing the actual owner frantically we decided to find another place to staz. Ended up in a four star hotel that was waz too expensive and was actuallz the worst room we have had all trip. Eventuallz got ahold of the apartment though and we were able to spend the second night there. We explored the hills of Buda, seeing the castle and the citadel, and spent our second afternoon at one of the many turkish spas the city is famous for.Managed to get a fine while leaving the subway this morning. My fault, totally misread the signs and we didnt have the right ticket. Crappy way to leave a city that gave us such bad luck. We both really liked it regardless though, so thats got to say something. Verz friendlz people who were willing to help us out manz times.
We are in the mountains of Slovakia at the moment. Getting our accomodation today was quite the fun experience. I had booked an apartment ages ago, but was never able to directly contact the owner. We knew the town was small, we had her name and address though. So we literallz showed up, walked to the small restaurant in town where no one speaks english, and the locals kept asking each other about this lady until they found so´meone who knew her. He directed us to her apartment, where we rang the bell, and she came down and walked us up the road to our GIGANTIC ´two story apartment that we are renting for four nights. all for sixty dollars. Its supposed to rain the entire time we are here, which does not make for great or safe hiking, so we may end up exploring slovakia a bit based from here, we will see. We are just happz to have a place for four nights, we have been moving around way too much. After this we are off to prague for three nights, then we flý to denmark for the rest of the trip.
