Diamond in the Desert
Oh the wonders of the internet!
I had not spoken with my best friend from High School in more than 14 years and we had even lost touch with each other. I had searched for him but was not successful. It turns out he had searched me out as well. On May 15, I received an e-mail asking if I were the Jeremy that went to North Tahoe High School and I replied yes. It was my friend!!!! He found me through an internet search on airplanes. I was thrilled beyond words and started planning a trip to Phoenix immediately. We flew to Phoenix by way of Memphis on Thursday May 29 and spent a wonderful three days together. I was able to meet his wife and three children and he met my family also.
The flights were all smooth and we even got first class on the way back home!On Friday May 30, we attended an Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game at Chase Field. The D-Backs as they are also known played host to the Washington Nationals. It was a really nice ballpark but was surprisingly empty for a first place team! There were only about 25,000 fans in attendance. This is the only ballpark in America that has a swimming pool for rent during the game. The stadium also has a retractable roof to keep cool during the boiling Arizona summers. The roof was open for this cool night of 98 degrees. One of the greatest plays in baseball history took place here on November 4, 2001 when Luis Gonzales singled in the game winning run against the New York Yankees, giving Arizona the World Series Championship.
This night would not be as exciting. The Nationals defeated Arizona by a score of 7 to 4.
I highly recommend a visit to this stadium. The team is celebrating ten years of existence this year and Chase Field is a great place to watch the action.
