So, Mel and I are ready to head out with James to the first venue which is the private cellar dining location for wine and coffee, etc. On our way, James realizes he left the “drink for” signs in his room, along with a couple other surprise necessities. We can’t get a hold of Eric or anyone as they are off renting bikes for their Sunday morning ride. James gets a call from Talia (Tali08) that she’s on her way. We decide to have James drop Mel and I off so we will be there as people show up. We go inside the same place we were so they can tell us how to get to the basement. She tells us she will take us but that the party is not until now. WTF? We were told .
Come to find out, one of their big surprises is Mark and his other friend Mark, are going to play for us! I love live music and I’ve heard that Mark has a great voice which he certainly did! Now, the only sad thing was they couldn’t play any Toto – I was hoping for an
Now, James is back and we decide it is wine time – but a bottle this time. We opt for the Blackstone Cabernet from
Next, more of the crew from our hotel started to arrive and I was aghast to see Sal didn’t even dress up for our wedding reception! Mel and I quickly scolded him and he said he was going for the rocker look and that’s why I married him.
As we were leaving, not sure which one of us got the bright idea to mess with the BIG wine and champagne bottles on display by the door but as you can imagine, we didn’t miss the opportunity for more silliness. This is what Sal and I like to refer to as our reception toast – Vegas wino style. Screw the glass – go for the bottle baby!! HA HA. There are a couple great shots of us with the bottles and of course, we got caught but they didn’t say anything to us. WHEW. Unlike poor Shawn who got busted on the PF Chang’s horse earlier in the day.
Now we are behind everyone else and not sure where they walked off to for dinner. Uh oh. My phone rings and it’s my friend John (JohnFutrell) back in Vegas wondering how the meet is going. I ramble a bit to him and then get off the phone so I can help track down where we need to be. Eric spots us and directs us to the restaurant which is only a couple blocks away. As we round the last corner, I am stunned by what I see and can’t do anything but stand there in shock and then squeal. As though it’s like fate, I am standing before Cinderella’s coach – Sal and I HAVE to take photos…it’s our wedding carriage! The driver obliges and Mel takes a few photos of us. The guy suggests they take one from the back through the heart so we do another faux wedding kiss. Someone tells the driver we aren’t really together and he said he figured that out right away.
We get inside the restaurant (Jack Steak I think it was called) and everyone is settling in and there is a big round table but we are short a seat and me being the lefty, I don’t do so well crowded in round tables. Us late peeps (Vegas crew of course…ha ha) sit at the last table by ourselves. Since we’ve been banished to the kid’s table we continue our goofiness and snap some more wedding party photos.
All kidding aside, one thing that Sal and I are totally compatible on is wine. It was great to learn we had a lot in common about wine when we were at the first LA meet together in May.
Now, it’s time to head out for the real meet up location and we get as far as the door and are fascinated with the nice bull statue out front. Oh boy, you can imagine where this is going….
Ok, now we are at the venue which has a “welcome TB sign” which was totally awesome! This is more like a regular dive bar that I hang at so I was thrilled when I spotted the pool table. Perhaps I shouldn’t have though as it was without a doubt, the worst game I ever played in my life. A 5 year old could’ve played better than me! Usually I do well on the smaller bar tables since I have my own 8 foot table at home but yeah, uh, not so much this time.
So, with the ceremonies, it’s time to present Yadi her shirt for the farthest traveled TB and also, James was presenting Mel with her crown and she was doing the “official” knighting ceremony for James, Will, Sal, and RJ didn’t know he was now one too. Apparently I missed the initial one that took place with a butter knife at the April Vegas meet up!! HA HA HA Some of the cameras were dying so most of the pics are on my camera which is why there are even more photos than I usually take (just throwing that out there since Tim keeps picking on me about the number of photos we take).
After the crowning ceremonies, it’s time for the “drink for” signs.
By now people want to go dancing again and we head back to the Power and Light District. On the way out of the door, we run into Kirk (kirkeedoo) and his friend Dan who reluctantly agree to meet us over there (they aren’t the biggest fans of that area since people can be snobby sometimes and it’s always packed). James, Mel, and I set off together while Sal is still on the street corner on his phone.
Sal and I had a nice time chatting alone on the way (ooo la la) and as we arrived, things started to get confusing. James was out of gas and had to find a station, some people were all over the place, my phone was dying and Kirk’s friend Dan was texting me. I hurried up and programmed his phone number into Sal’s phone since I would never remember it when the phone shut off. We get up to the line for Howl at the Moon which is long and RJ said it’s packed inside. Finally we get organized enough to end up back at the Irish pub, in our little cubby again. SWEET! This is where things start to get a little jumbled for me as I was all over.
At the hotel, we got Mel to bed, and met the gang downstairs for a last drink and our goodbyes. Apparently Eric and Yadi had crashed some wedding reception at the hotel, made friends, and were talking to a few of the attendees when we arrived. And then there was Marcus…not sure if he was with the wedding party or not but he was hanging with our group and said he’s joining TravBuddy too.
So, now it’s time to retire upstairs for my hour and half of sleep and poor James to take us at . Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz………..
