Week in San Diego - Day 2 - Del Mar Fairgrounds
Yesterday was all about the beaches - The Strand, Pacific Beach, the Boardwalk, and getting our bearings on the geography and getting aquainted with San Diego and the weather and the vacation home. Kinda surreal, actually, but in a nice way. I mean, from what I saw, it looks like the locals are in perpetual holiday mode. But then, we're talking about a beachfront community, and summer's just starting, so what else can you expect?
Today's going to be all about the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Tell you the truth, I feel like sneaking away to the Gaslamp Quarter, but its almost impossible to explain why you have something important to attend to, when you're supposed to be on holiday, so I guess I'll have to do my share of rubbing noses with the snotty crowd at the race grounds. But its getting a bit unbearable, having to go through all the things to do in San Diego one by one, and save PETCO Park and the rest of the Gaslamp Quarter for the 4th of July.
Anyway, its off to Del Mar where "Weird Al" Yankovic will be waiting to ambush us with his pop satire. The saving grace will be the Tuff Truck race, which is likely to be more hypnotizing than the show being put up by Mark Yuzuik, Master Hypnotist. The rest of the stuff at the Fairgrounds like the Sparkletts Water Infield will likely be interesting to the family, but I've been to the Fair before, so the novelty is just not there. Like I said, I'd be a lot happier mulling over my thoughts at the one of the bars in the Gaslamp. Hopefully, that could still be possible in the next few days, if I can get some down time to myself.
