Sweet San Francisco
Try as I might, I just can't picture San Francisco as 'happening'. You know, like Vegas or New York City's Meatpacking District, or even like San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter or Los Angeles (although Los Angeles should be categorized as nutty, rather than trendy or cool). These places, whatever you think of them, have some hard-charging party-goers, who can teach you a thing or two about how to make a party go wild. And they have hotels which are like candles to a moth, and attract all the posh glitterati in the area. I'm talking about hotels like the Hard Rock and the Ivy in San Diego and the Gansevoort in New York City.
Point is, when you land up in the land where the House of Ghiradelli is still churning out chocolates, you don't expect all this. You expect things to do in San Francisco which are quaint and sugary and sweet, like the cable cars, and Fisherman's Wharf and Alcatraz. What you don't expect is a zippy nightclub belting out hip-hop into the wee hours of the morning.
Still, considering that I was here especially to check out the nightlife, I decided to sample a few of San francisco's offerings. BTW, is it just me, or has San Francisco's share of tourists gone up a lot? Everywhere you go, you see these groups of tourits gawking around and checking things out. Anyway, back to the night clubs. The one I liked best was the Cellar, an underground lounge with a neat vibe, free flowing drinks and lots of hot bods. Pretty youngish crowd. very cosmopolitan. Located at 685 Sutter Street. Another one worth mention is the DNA Lounge on 375 11th St. This one's slightly more edgier and the clientele a bit on the 'dark side', if you know what I mean. Let's just say that the Cellar is where all the kids go, and the DNA Lounge is where people who want to 'experiement' land up at.
