Trip to Chiemsee

Chiemsee
We took a day trip out to Chiemsee yesterday. There are two islands there – Herreninsel and Fraueninself (essentially: man island and woman island). Chiemsee is the setting of King Ludwig’s palace (one of them anyway), which he designed to look like Versailles. He ran out of money and never finished it though. His bathtub was the size of a small swimming pool. Also interesting is the fact that he died in the house. He was found in the pool with his physician – who was also dead. There were no obvious signs of homicide. So it’s a mystery to this day. Many people disliked him – the public was starving while he was building palaces out of marble and gold. A lot of people think he was poisoned. The King was known to be a good swimmer.
After we saw the palace we had dinner on Fraueninsel We went to a really lovely restaurant paid for by SCU (i.e. paid for by me through my tuition money). Naturally I ordered the most expensive dinner possible. I had mineral water, beer, steak dinner, an apple donut and ice cream dessert thing, schnapps liquor (made by nuns) and finally a cappuccino. Soaked em dry! My dad would be so proud. I attached some pictures, but unfortunately it was a bit overcast.
What else – there is a film festival going on right now. We saw a film called Frozen, which is nominated for many awards. It was sooo boring. It’s very “deep” – not my type of movie. So tonight I’m giving it another shot with Ibid – a movie about two patients who are released from a psych ward. It’s supposed to be funny I think. I’m taking it easy this wknd – it seems like I’ve been running around nonstop. Sunday night Germany plays…some team…in the Euro Cup, so I will definitely be going out for that. Well that’s all for now.
