Ketel One Distillery

We awoke from a truly miserable night in our tents! The temperature dropped to near zero and Jason and I were clearly not prepared for such weather. Unfortunately, Jason and I only brought a blanket to sleep on and a blanket to cover us; we had no sleeping bag. Despite the tortorous night, we needed to get going because we had a busy day ahead of us. We left for Amsterdam Central Station at 7 am to catch a train to Schieden, where we would visit the Ketel One Distillery. Since Jason's mom works for the company, we were able to take a tour of the establishment and have tea with the owner's wife and brother. After enjoying tea, the owner's wife was courteous enough to take us by water taxi to a nice lunch at New York Hotel in Rotterdam. In addition, the woman showed us her wonderful Dutch hospitality when she took us shopping for sleeping bags and gave us Ketel One vests and sweatshirts to keep us warm.
Following our trip to the Ketel One Distillery was an hour long train ride back to Amsterdam, where I decided that I should give my parents a call. Before leaving the country, I had told my parents that I was going camping in San Diego for three days. Little did they know, I was across the world and wouldn't be home for a few weeks! It was time to break the news to them! Luckily, they thought that it was great and they all had a good laugh.
