Mom and I at Fuller Lake at Pine...
Affordable Camping in the real forest
From 1972 until now I have been going camping with my family at Pine Grove Furnace State Park. There are many camp sites to choose from. You can be near the outhouses, the ampitheater, the road, the creek or right in the middle of the campground. I have always gone camping in a tent with my family. From the Agnes flood in 1972 we had an old canvas tent which was very heavy, but lasted many years. Then we had a nylon one but eventually it leaked and the poles broke and were irreplacable. Now we have another durable tent which hold our air mattress's and our sleeping bags and all of our gear we need. We also have our table tarp in case of rain for the picnic table. It is a very peaceful place to go during anytime of the year. I love camping in the winter, but my parents think it is to cold, so the bravest they have been is gone in the fall during Halloween. It gets quite cold in the mountains in the fall and there is no hot water, but it sure is wonderful getting away from the city every now and again. The Appalachian Trail runs thru the Park and Pole Steeple is a nice steep trail to hike up and look out over the Park. The little store sells the ice cream and any other little things you might need if you run out when you are camping. This definately is a place for family to go to spend quality time together.
