Camping this year with the family

Well, the weekend started out as sunny and warm. We got all packed up and headed up the mountains. Nice 1 hour drive from my Mom's house to the campgrounds. We got a great site near the ampitheater this year hoping to see some special display for July 4th.
To our dismay the movies and events got cancelled due to the inclimate weather. We pitched the tent over the plastic and put the rain tarp on the tent, but somehow the rain just came in the tent this year because we didn't have that necessary gap needed between the tent and the rain tarp. I slept in a puddle the one night. Mom and Rick stayed dry on their side of the tent so they didn't care. Yeah yeah yeah I am a former Marine and have slept in dirt and mud and ground and rain, but this was vacation not work related, so I was not happy.
We adjusted the tent for the following night, but no avail I was wet all night again. The sky cleared up a bit, and we thought we had a great rest of weekend to be had. But..... I get fed up and asked to go home. I wanted to sleep in my own bed at my Mom's house. After all I drove up in my car from Virginia and had not slept in my own bed yet that particular weekend.
We always have fun cooking and relaxing and hiking and going to the beach at the lake. But this year, I was a bit tired.
I guess I am getting too old to sleep on the ground. I don't know how my mom and Rick do it. The sleep on the ground and they are twice my age.
