Why cant they have the old tree by the road??!
June 15, 2008
Today is fathers day and unfortunately i scheduled this hike before i remebered that it was so i wasnt able to see my dad at all today. but thats okay because the hike was fun. I picked up Cathy around 8am because Amy was still sleeping so she didnt come which was okay because we just had fun without her. We drove up to mt charleston which took us about an hour. we got a little lost cause we passed the road we were supposed to turn into but thats okay because thats just part of the adventure. so eventually we found our way to the start of the trail in deer creek road on the north loop trail.. the elevation was around 8000ft above sea level. we arrived first and then stephen arrived and a few minutes later MJ, Rosy, Sebastian, and Holly arrived.
then Andy and Danielle. So the hike was pretty hard. there a 1500 feet elevation change up three miles and this was to see the Rain Tree which is the oldest living tree in Mount Charleston. its 3000 years old.. There was alot of spectacular views ofcourse and we were amazed that there was still snow up there.. we did have a few snowball fights and we climbed a few trees. and ofcourse took alot of pictures. We stoped several times to rest but we didnt eat our lunch until we arrived at rain tree and we stayed there for a while. then we headed off to the springs which was cool.. so after we saw that we headed back which is pretty much all down hill which was great because we got back to our cars pretty fast but our feet hurt alot. me and cathy ate at IN-N-OUT burger joint which was good and i drove her back home. the whole hike was a little over 6 miles and it took us 6 hours because of the difficulty. It was a really great hike and i recommend people to see this tree cause it was pretty cool!
