The journey begins
Arrived in Delhi early this morning. So did the monsoons. Normally expected in Delhi during the first week of July, this is the earliest monsoon in 108 years - so we are off to a good start!
First experiences: After buying a prepaid taxi ticket this guy walked up to us the second we came through customs claiming that it was his taxi we were looking for - he had managed to read the taxi number off the receipt! When we finally got into the right taxi, the driver spent half the morning trying to find our hotel and we spent the other half trying to find a new one! (let's just say that what we'd booked didnt exactly live up to our expectations). And all this in the midst of pouring rain.
Despite the significant jet lag, the end of the day found us exhausted and falling asleep quite easily, only to be woken up by drums and trumpets. A wedding procession was heading towards our hotel and - admittedly underdressed - I joined the crowd. We didnt manage to meet the groom and bride but we did make our first friends; a group of kids who were thrilled to find out everything there was about us, dance with us and also test their english and french!
Welcome to India.
