Din & I, pose in our plane to Sydney. We are no gay!
Welcome readers..before I start my story, let me have a pre-travel introduction to Australia 2008. My trip to Australia wasn't what I wanted actually as I'll be going with my colleague, Din. We originally wanted to go on a 10day Egypt+Turkey trip but this chap, last minute, informed me that he won't want to go there as he said he wouldn't want to spend big bucks to learn history. I wasn't pleased still we made searches to countries where he felt he wants to have pleasure and Australia was our destination. This is a 9D trip to Australia.
It was my 1st trip to Down Under & in fact, I've never gone anywhere further from Malaysia. So, i should say there's a lot of 1st time in many things for this trip. Our trip starts on 2/6/08 and our flight to Sydney
from Singapore was at 9.
My lunch..Nasi Biryani and my Frommer's Australia book.
30am. We met up at Changi Airport around 7.45am & decided to get our boarding passes. While we were at the counter, something bad hit us. We were informed that our visas weren't applied. Now don't tell me that's a good way to start our holidays. I was stunned because as informed by our tour travel agent, they had waived & applied for us. We made calls to our travel agency & nobody answered our call. As we were short on time, we quickly made online visa applications even with a AUD$20 charge each. We hurried ourselves to the plane after that & off we were to Sydney.
By the time we reached there, it was around 6-7pm. We had to take another domestic plane to Brisbane
as Gold Coast is our 1st destination.
That's how wet it was in Sydney when we got in the plane to Brisbane.
There were delays too and the plane from Sydney to Brisbane jets off around 9pm. We reached Brisbane airport around 12am. I tell you folks we were quite tired by then. Our pickup van from Con-X-ion was waiting for us & this Japanese guy sent us to our hotel which was like an hour trip from the airport! Waaaa.. Inside, there was another lady who we thought was also a tourist. This Japanese driver sent her to her home 1st and then both of us. I did talked to the Japanese driver who had some difficulties understanding English, particularly the word "SHOWER" which means rain. I had to explain..."WET, RAIN..." & he understood. On that day it was already raining cats & dogs.
While on the way to our hotel, I asked if there were any food outlets that were opened at midnight & I told haven't eaten our dinner. He took us to this gas station which he said, was the only one opened in town. After getting some bread, Nutella & snacks, we continued our journey to the hotel. We reached our hotel (Paradise Resort located at Surfer's Paradise) at 1am. What a great hotel! Big room, 2 separate beds. We chomped our food & slept around 2am. What a day...we know we have to wake up early later.
