The invitation

I wrote this entry because I want to share how happy I am with this occasion. Today, I was invited by the Ambassador of Japan for Indonesia and Mrs. Kojiro Shiojiri to the reception of the Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. Why am I happy? Because I think not everybody gets this opportunity. So, I'm very lucky to have it ;-) And, why am I writing this here? I think it's as the follow up of my comparative study to Japan in January 2007 that written in this blog.

I can say that nothing was special with the reception, besides the host and the special guests. It was opened by Mr Shiojiri and Mr Jusuf Kalla's speeches. Jusuf Kalla is the Vice President of Republic Indonesia. Then, we sang the Indonesian and Japananese's anthems accompanied by Indonesian bamboo music instruments played by Japanese women.

The ballroom
Of course, I only could sing Indonesia Raya, not Kimigayo ;-) Then, we dined. The food was okay I think but it was too crowded. All I remember is I had to be careful with the drinks. I had to make sure that I only drink soda or water. Because they served champagne, wine, beer, and I don't know else.

What was so amazing in this occasion? The host. Why? This is why:

  • Mr Shiojiri gave his speech in Bahasa Indonesia in the beginning. Even it was not easy for him to read the text in Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Before he switched the speech into English, he said in Bahasa Indonesia, "in order to save your energy, I will speak English" and everybody was burst to laugh :D
  • Mr and Ms Shiojiri stood up at the door to thank the guest on the way out of the ballroom.

In my opinion, Mr and Ms Shiojiri benevolent and modest persons who have sense of humor. I salute you, Mr and Ms Ambassador ;-)

When I saw them at the door, I really wanted to shake their hands. But, I didn't know what to say. So, I just waited and watched them. Suddenly, Megawati (the fifth President of Republic Indonesia) came and they went to receive her. So, I decided to go home. But before I did that, I heard somebody called my name. It was Zaki, one of the group members of comparative study to Japan. After being alone in a crowded room, at last I met a person I know. Zaki came with his wife from Sukabumi. So, we talked and exchanged our nostalgia during our visit in Japan. At 8.30 PM we said good bye and promised to keep in touch. Actually, there was one more friend that came, Pak Muis. But, I didn't meet him.
