Day 13, Last Day Tour

Tokyo Travel Blog › entry 20 of 22 › view all entries

I was so lucky that I had a chance to visit Japan in January 2007. I was one of twelve Indonesian Islamic School Heads that invited by Ministry of Foreign Affair Japan in collaboration with PPIM UIN Jakarta. In my opinion, Japan has done a great job in preserving its culture while moving towards to modernism. I could not say anything besides "Thank you Lord... alhamdulillah..."

Day 13, Last Day Tour

Tokyo Prince Hotel

I think Tokyo Tower was not in our agenda today, but my friends and I insisted a little bit to Ibu Miyo to go there. Our reason was we saw the tower everyday, it was very closed to our hotel, but how come that we didn't visit it. So, in short, we went there. It was amazing. I took many photos from the tower. We went to the highest part of the tower. (I plan to write a review about Tokyo Tower)

On the way to the Tokyo Tower, on the bus, we gave souvenirs for Hasegawa-san and Ibu Miyo to show our gratitude to them for accompaning us for 2 weeks.

Then, we visited the School of Republic Indonesia Tokyo at Balai Indonesia. The school is for Indonesian kids whose parents work in Tokyo. We met and discussed with the headmaster.

Since it was time to perform the Friday prayer, we didn't have time to look around. We had lunch there. The menu was Indonesian food. Oh I really missed it! I was told that every Friday, many Indonesian people come to Balai Indonesia to have lunch there and perform Friday prayer. They use that opportunity to meet each other.

We had to go back to our hotel because this evening we were invited by the Ambassador of Indonesia for Japan. But, we allowed our time to visited Yoyogi Mosque before that. The mosque was built by Turkish people in Tokyo. The architecture and the interior of the mosque are Turkish style.

In the evening we had dinner at Indonesian Embassy. It was our farewell reception. We were received by the Ambassador and chatted with the embassy employees. Ito-san and Ayako-san were there too. Tanaka-san and Hasegawa-san the ones who escorted us. Four of them are MOFA staffs. That evening, Ibu Miyo didn't accompany us.

After the reception, at the hotel lobby, we said good bye to Tanaka-san and Hasegawa-san officially. I was so sad... :-( Tomorrow, we would leave Japan. Ibu Miyo would take us to the airport.

Amazing Tower
If you go to Tokyo, I recommend you to visit Tokyo Tower!
The reasons why are:
• It's a very famous tower. Before I went there, I often saw it imitated by contestants at Masquerade, a TV show from Japan.
• You can see the view of Tokyo from two different heights:
o Main Observatory at the height of 150 m
o Special Observatory at the height of 250 m
• You have to try the experience of standing or walking in the sky! At the Main Observatory, there is a “Lookdown Window” where you can look down at the ground from the height of 145 m. Challenge yourself to do that! Me myself, I could stand up there but was not brave enough to walk on it. Brrrr.... :-(

Turkish Mosque at Tokyo
Tokyo Camii or Tokyo Mosque or Yoyogi Mosque is a mosque that was built by Turkish people in Tokyo.
The architecture of the building and the interior are Turkish style.
Besides the praying area, there is also a seating area and an office.
I'm not sure whether only Muslims can enter the building or not.
If you have a chance to visit this mosque or even pray there, take that!
