Could they be the friendliest people in Europe? Quaint towns and canals abound in this pleasant country.

Zandvoort

Zandvoort is a beach town, walking out of the station there doesn't appear to be anything there, then you clear the first row of buildings and voila! The beach - perfect! Sandy (unlike so many of the UK "beaches" covered in rocks!) and expansive, littered with colourful beach umbrellas and tents, and Aussie flags of all things! The wind is amazingly strong however, and it makes even a hot day so much cooler there with the strong breeze.

Other than the beach, there didn't appear to be that much to do in Zandvoort, but I spent a very pleasant hour just sitting in the plaza right on the beach enjoying the sunshine and propping my feet up on the retaining wall after all the walking in Amsterdam and the other Dutch cities.
