Town On The Edge

Sargans Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

In 1995, my friend Darla and I embarked on, what can only be discribed as a "Whirlwind" tour: Ten countries in eleven days! No, we weren't crazy, we just wanted to get a taste of EVERYTHING! Neither of us had been to the continent before, so we did what we could.

Town On The Edge

A church converted into a restaurant overlooking Sargans.
We arrived in Sargans late in the afternoon. It was our jump off point to go to Liechtenstein. But since we had a little wait for the next bus to arrive to take us to Vaduz , we thought we'd look around. We noticed several stylish, old dwellings on the hill above us and decided to take a look. As we climbed we went through a quiet lane with white walled homes with steep roofs. We then came across a shrine with the date 1683 above its doorway. This was next to an old church which had been converted into a restaurant (picture). We walked on and discovered a small vinyard, covered with netting dissending the edge of the hillside. From there you could see all of the town. Taking notice of the time, we clammered back down and caught our bus in to Vaduz.
