City Of Lights
September 15, 1995
We arrived in Paris on a wonderful, sunny day. We had decided to splurge while in Paris. We found a very nice hotel a block from the Gare de Lyon, Modern Hotel Lyon. We threw or stuff down and started a walking tour. We saw most every landmark in Paris: The Left bank, Notre Dame, The Bastille, the gardens, The Louvre, Arc du Triomphe, the Obilisk, and of course the Eiffel Tower. We ran through the Louvre, sorry to say. We caught the Mona Lisa, The Three Graces and part of the Egyptology wing. By the time we reached the Eiffel Tower, it was almost sunset. We watched the lights pop on around the city and along the Seine. Paris is much more beautiful at night by my accounts. To finish off a great day we needed only one more thing: a hamburger. Nice and greasy. We were going to do the whole, "Royale with cheese" thing, but decided Planet Hollywood would be a better venue. Man it was good. We had been eating nothing but healthy food for almost two weeks. No preservatives or added flavors! Just what we needed to finish our European Adventure!
Convenient and Comfortable
We found this hotel to be very nice. Just up from the Gare de Lyon train station, a block from the Seine and three blocks from l'Opera-Bastille. Though on the eastern end of Paris, we walked all the way to the Eiffel Tower. Not for the faint of heart (or sole), but very managable. The hotel itself was very nice, as I said. We had a private bath and toilet, mini bar and TV. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were large enough for two people. Bonus was a nice little grocery across the street on the corner of Rue Charles.
