What a view! The trip from Galway to Doolin

After doing a little shopping in Galway in the morning, we once again began our travels to our next destination--Doolin, Ireland. Doolin is a really great place to stay if you plan to explore The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher. Doolin is a very, very small town, with about three B&B's and three pubs which pretty much make up the town as a whole--yet the quaint-ness of the town is what adds to it's charm. Our drive to Doolin provided us with a whole new set of challenges that we didn't have in Dublin--navigating those back-country roads! The speed limit was ridiculously fast, the roads claim to be two lanes, but really were just one lane split into two, not to mention the serious lack of "shoulder" space on the side of the road--all of which helped me to understand why the hubcaps of our rental car were zip-tied on!!! Once we got past our "road fright", we were able to enjoy the wonderful country scenery--rolling hills of green, sheep and cow grazing, reaching mountain peaks--all of which just seemed so different from home in some way.

One thing you must do when you go to Ireland is drive through and explore The Burren. The Burren is a part of island where the ground is made of limestone--acres and acres of limestone weathered, beaten, and cracked by time. It's really a pretty cool sight. Next time I go to Ireland I'd like to spend a little more time exploring The Burren, as we only explored the parts we drove through on the way to Doolin. As soon as we arrived at our very cute B&B, we unloaded our things, and got right back in the car to go and explore the Cliffs of Moher! Later we had lunch at Gus O'Connor's Pub (the most well-known pub in town), then, after a rest, took the one minute walk to the pub down the street for a few drinks, a bite to eat, and some entertainment. The Traditional Irish music playing in the pub and the "where everybody knows your name" feeling really gave us a warm, welcoming feeling and made the town of Doolin all the more charming.
