Drive to the Fishing beach
June 11, 2008
I had to get out of the house today - my new attitude, don't waste a single day. Although this attitude comes with a larger price tag since petrol in the UK is currently £1.18 /litre.
Checking the weather forecast revealed heading South West from Portishead had the best chance of sunshine. So I loaded up my walking boots, charged my camera and sped away down the M5; stopping on route for a bacon sandwich with brown sauce and a builders cup of tea - sorry no pics of that!! The country lanes are just the most amazing thing about driving in the UK. Most are narrow enough to give you that speedy effect of trees blurring passed but wide enough for two cars to get by and today there were no cars, just mile after mile of empty road! Armed with the Satnav to warn of side roads ahead I opened her up (allegedly) and made my way speedily through the lanes toward the North Devon coast.
I stopped off on the way at Appledore, a small and reasonable picturesque fishing village near Barnstaple before heading over Saunton sands to walk on the beach, watch the surfers and poke small animals in the rock pools =)
