Mini Travbuddy meeting with Gudny (TB name Journy) in Oslo.

Oslo Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

I`m in Oslo with my sümphonic band for the weekend. Oslo is hot, hot, hot. Concert on Youngstorvet in 31 degree Celsius on Friday. Meeting a Travbuddy, Gudny for a cold drink the same evening. A tour with an old ship on the Oslo Fjord in beautiful sun set. Giving a concert on Saturday, witch the crowd loved. And the best of all; our concert on the roof on the new Opera house

Mini Travbuddy meeting with Gudny (TB name Journy) in Oslo.

Gudny and me

Before going to Oslo I received a message from Gudny asking me if I had time to meet her.   It thought it was a great idea to meet her and was looking forward to meet the one that had made the nice Oslo blog.

We changed cell phone nr and I promised to message her when I arrived Oslo to set up a time to meet her.

I had a tight schedule so we met in the hotel lobby where I was staying  and went just around the corner from the hotel and sat outside in the sunshine.

Temperature in Oslo was 30 Celsius so we  had a cold drink, Gudny drinking ice tea, I`m drinking beer.

Gudny told me she had been sun bathing and swimming in the Oslo fjord earlier this day and the temperature was about 20 degree Celsius in the fjord.

I told her about my day, getting up at 04.00,  the bus ride for 560 km from Trondheim to Oslo and about the concert on Youngstorget ( a large square in Oslo) in 30 degree Celsius.

We talked about the plans we had for future travels.  She is planning a trip to Croatia, I`m planning for a trip to Portugal.

Time runs fast, especially when you’re with nice, interesting people.

After I while I had to leave Gudny, I had a boat trip on the Oslo fjord with my band on my schedule

Gudny is a nice person. I felt as if I were meeting an old friend who I haven’t seen for a long time. So communicative and friendly. Gudny is a very nice person.   .

I know that we’ll meet again.  I`m visiting Oslo several time each year, and John is planning a Travbuddy meet up in Stavanger later this year.

Reach out and touch somebody's heart through traveling, isn't that what TB is all about? Meeting a kindred spirit is always a wonderful experience. Perhaps I'll be able to join you ladies one day :)

Five star hotel in the heart of Oslo, sorry to say the service is not up to five stars
My band choosed to stay at a hotel in the heart of Oslo when we visited Oslo in June this year.

This is a five star hotel, and the hotel is situated only 100 meters from the Central Station, airport train and airport shuttle. It is close to Oslo's finest shopping, sightseeing and entertainment.

After a hot 7 hour bus tour from Trondheim we were happy to finally reach Oslo and our hotel, longing for a shower before our concert at Youngstorget. Unfortunately the crew at the hotel wasn’t prepared for our arrival. Time for our arrival was 03 PM and our rooms were not ready.

As our concert at Youngstorget started at 04 PM we were in a hurry to get showered and change our clothes. Five star hotel and they can’t manage to have our room ready by our arrival, some of us were rather pissed.

We had to skip the shower and change clothes in the SPA centre, not to miss our concert. Our suitcases and instrument cases were stuffed in a room the staff let us use.

After the concert in 30 Celsius we were boiled and longed for a shower, hoping our rooms were ready for us. I`m usually a very patient women, but arriving the hotel at 05 PM, getting the message; “Your room is not ready for you”; I felt my green eyes turning black (as they did at Schiphol half year ago). Looking the receptionist in her eyes I answered “OK if our rooms are not ready you can forget us paying the bill”. Oh my, I got my room after one minute, but some of my friends had to wait for one hour. Most of them had a free night at the hotel.

We gave a concert at the hotel the day after, I have to say a good concert, the audience loved it, the staff to LOL.

The hotel has a well appointed recreation centre inclusive pool, sauna, fitness centre and possibility for all kind of treatments for face and body. We didn`t have the time to visit this facilities.

We enjoyed breakfast, in the large spacious Atrium in the heart of the hotel. A very nice breakfast by the way.

We had a great meal at Saturday evening in one of the resturants.

This is a very nice hotel in spit our experiences. But if I ever need a hotel in Oslo again, it will not bee this one.

Boat trip in the evening sun on the Oslo fjord
If you are visiting Oslo in the summertime you have lots of opportunities to make a boat journey on the Oslo fjord.
Down by the harbour you can choose between different kinds of boats to take you on the Oslo fjord.
We choosed the boat SS Lady Mack for a journey round some of the small islands in the Oslo fjord.
Lady Mack is the largest three sailing vessel of its kind in Scandinavia
We were about 250 musicians participating on the boat journey and of cause we had our own Dixieland band with us.
The crew had arranged for a nice tapas meal, including shrimps and mussel from the fjord.
It was a fantastic journey in the beautiful sunset. In these parts of Northern Europe the sun is shining almost the whole night. In the end of June the sun don’t set in the Northern parts of Norwy.
Hope you will enjoy my photos from the journey.

Dixieland band? Fun!
I like to visit Prince Rupert, especially in the summer. It's roughly the same latitude as Oslo I reckon. I like the way it stays light out in the summer :o)

Great photos Marit! I remember you writing in one of your other comments to me a few days ago that it was 11pm your time and the sun was still shining. These photos just go to show. I don't know how you can ever get to sleep! Amazing. Anyway, great review (I love sunsets, the ocean, and seafood), so this was right up my alley. Congrats on having it featured, well deserved!
