Really getting away from it all

We got a transfer from Kuta to Gili Meno, one of the three Gili Islands located just off the north-west coast of Lombok. They're all tiny little islands; Gili Meno is only about one mile by three quarters of a mile, and is less visited than the other two. There seemed to be only about twenty tourists on the island when we were there.
The transfer came in many stages and took quite a long time. Firstly we had a minibus transfer from Kuta up to somewhere on the south-east side of Bali from where we hopped on a ferry for the four hour crossing to Lombok. The sea was calm and so the crossing fairly pleasant.
We spent a relaxing few days on Gili Meno. There are a few different places to stay on the south-east corner of the island, and some more on the west coast. They all have little beach bungalow-style accommodation. Ours was pretty well appointed, with just about the largest bed we had anywhere during our year away. In the evening we could stroll along the shore to a couple of the places that did food in the evening. We could get a lovely fish dinner, and one night there was a guitar-accompanied sing-along with some of the locals and a German couple who were staying there. We hired snorkels from one of the places along the beach, but found the water to be a little cloudy and choppy, and I wasn't confident to go too far from the beach, so didn't see a lot.
The best part of the experience was the total isolation of the place, coupled with just enough provision in the way of a couple of places to eat, and a couple of bars to sit in during the day, without there being many people around at all.
