Fiddlesticks!
Going back to New York is always bittersweet and full of surprises. When I was in college, I used to visit every 6 months because of my then-boyfriend and in order to keep my sanity, as I was adjusting poorly to Los Angeles.

New York is hands down the most amazing place on earth. Sure I'm probably biased because I grew up there, but what surprisingly sums it up nicely is the American Express commercial with Al Pacino. It's this chaotic nexus of our collective history, a brief moment of contemporary self reflection, and then this looming aspiration - everything we work for and envision for our future generations. It's a place of wonder and incredible heartache, and a city where it's completely up to you whether you choose to be alone or in synch with 5 million people around you.
Haha, my friends are so cool. They swallowed their pride and let me introduce them to Bubba Gump's!

Anyhow, enough of that.

This time around was great. I got to stay with my best friend who looked AMAZING. (Why does SoCal make you so fat?!) We saw the most fabulous one-woman show "Bridge and Tunnel" and we ate, drank, laughed and smoked hookahs =)

I feel like every time I visit NY something significant happens. We see someone from a long time ago, we eat zeppolis as we watch more buildings blocking our old view of Battery Park City, we bump into people on the E train who happen to be world famous bassists or the daughter of the author of "The Color Purple" and are hip enough to actually recognize them in person.

This time, Joyce brought me to her Chelsea salon where they gave me a proper haircut that I couldn't achieve with 6 different stylists (each charging over $80) in 18 months in Los Angeles.
New York fixes me in a way that the rest of the world could never hold a candle to.

OH MY GOD, I saw "Bridge and Tunnel" too and thought it was FANTASTIC!!! We are so alike. NYC truly is the best place in this great world. Great writing...
