Frankfurt, Germany

While on a business trip to Lisbon, I spent a little time checking it out and also got to take a side trip to Porto, Portugal's second largest city. I continued on to Austria to see my colleague compete in the Ironman Austria competition in Klagenfurt, with a little 36 hour detour to Vienna. I spent one night in Frankfurt on my way back home. It felt a little like the grand tour of Europe packed into a few short days!

I got into Frankfurt about 8:15pm on the 7th -- Doug went on to Dusseldorf and I stayed here, as my flight back to the States the next day (today).  I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel and after flirting with the hotel clerk at bit at check in, was upgraded to a suite with a great view over the Main River and downtown.

My flight out was not until 2:30pm, so I had time to take a walk along the Main River to the older part of Frankfurt.  I saw the Dom, or Cathedral,  and the Romer (the old city hall).  I think my favorite spot was the one you see in all the postcards from Frankfurt of the gingerbread looking houses.  It was on a nice square with lots of shops, people and interesting things to see.

My flight out was on American Airlines to Chicago and I was upgraded to Business Class.  I made it back to Austin around 7 that evening -- what a great trip -- 4 new countries in about a week!
