Culloden Battlefield Memorial. It was very cold and windy this day.

Had some bad news this morning.  I tried to download the pictures I took yesterday and most were not there.  I had dropped my camera yesterday, and the battery compartment popped open and the batteries fell out.  I put them back in, and turned the camera on.  It powered up and I thought everything was ok. Not sure what happened.  I was disappointed, because I took some really interesting pictures.  Oh well, I will just have to see if Brian got any good pictures.  I have noticed that their cameras take a pretty decent video, but the still pictures are just ok.

Today the boys and I drove out to the Culloden Battlefield Site.  It really is just a big open field with marker stones indicating where the different Clan’s warriors are reportedly interned.

Old building in Inverness. Might be a church.
It was a cold, windy, blustery day, so we did a quick walk around the site and went back into the warmth of visitor’s center. At just about every place we have gone, there have been plastic or wooden swords for sale.  It is taking all my powers of persuasion to talk the boys out of getting a couple.  I am not an ogre, but think it will be a hassle traveling with them.  When we get back to London, I will let them buy some if they want.

After we left Culloden, we drove back into Inverness.  I need to get some cash for the B&B, so we parked and walked around until we found a bank.  As we walked around we noticed that there are a lot of churches here.  The Scots take their religion very serious.

Another church across the river?
After we found the bank we decided to walk up to the Inverness Castle.  It is a small, but very pretty castle.  It is not open to the public, as it has been turned into the area courthouse.  I took some pictures and I am going to off load them from the camera to the laptop as soon as I am done typing this. (I have been typing these entries in Word, saving them, and then uploading them to the blog when I can get access).

The downtown area of Inverness is very quaint.  There has been a settlement here for a very long time.  There is a wide range of building types, as you would expect to find anywhere in the UK. The boys think I am weird (for taking so many pictures), but the history intrigues me.

Yet another church. The Scotts take their religion very seriously.

One good thing to note, the driving is getting easier. The roundabouts are not so daunting anymore.  And the mechanics of driving are getting easier…I only stalled the car once today! (I was getting pretty cocky until Bobby told me I have stalled the darn thing 7 times).

Not sure what we are going to do tomorrow.  I want to go see a castle on the west coast.  The boys want to go dolphin watching, and for a drive up to Clan Gunn country.  We will have to see how the weather is.  Either way, it will probably be a day of driving and admiring the countryside.  It is very beautiful here.  I just love the narrow country roads (well not for driving) they are very pretty.  There are stone walls and trees growing over the roadway from both sides.  The pictures I took of this were lost with those of Urquardt Castle.  I will try to get some more.  I am also trying to talk one of the boys to film a video clip as we drive alone one of the roadways.

Aditu says:
I had a hell of a time manuevering in Inverness not sure what the problem was but I was lost daily, lol. Wish you could have had a warmer day for Culloden, I think it is one of the most haunting places I've been.
