Rainy days sometimes get me down.
June 24, 2008
Hello All,
Well I think my minor sunburn is just about back to normal, and I was looking forward to some beach time today. Unfortunately the weather god did not want to co-operate. The rain was coming down all night, and didn't stop for most of the day. I spent alot of the day on the computer trying to figure out the next leg of my trip in Trinidad & Tobago.
I also analyzed my money situation, and it looks like I exchanged for too many Venezuelan Bolivares. I think that if I had done $100 less, I probably would have been able to make it. I guess I was so revved up about finding a good rate here on Margarita, that I got a bit carried away. With the complicated money situation here in Venezuela, it is almost impossible to sell Bolivares for US Dollars. Thoughts of selling the cash on eBay or advertising in on message boards run through my mind, but I'm sure that's not as easy as it seems.
Instead of taking the major loss on the extra cash, I decide to head out for a good meal tonight. I decided on La Isla, a restaurant on the beach. I had a wonderful dinner of filet mignon wrapped in bacon with a mushroom sauce, and even had a beer with the meal. I know I may come off like a snob here, but I really have not liked the beer in Venezuela. I am a dark beer fan, and I don't think the idea of a darker beer has ever occured to the average person here. I did have a very good dark Argentinian microbrew once, but other than that Latin America is not dark beer territory I guess.
Tomorrow I will take a taxi to the airport for my flight to Trinidad & Tobago. I am stopping first in Port Of Spain, the capital on Trinidad, before heading to the Crown Point airport on Tobago. I hope that finding a hotel with internet isn't too difficult there. I have one reserved for the first two days, and I will see how that goes.
Later, Phil
