Mini Vegas
West Wendover, Nevada is like a mini Las Vegas with its 5 casinos. It is on the state line with Utah, where gambling is not legal. The casinos literally start at the state line - funny! Many people from nearby in Utah stop here to contribute to the Nevada state income. Wendover Will greets people into Wendover from the west - the big neon lighted figure is very reminiscent of Vegas. As are the neon lights inside the casinos.
A few miles east is the famous Bonneville Salt Flats, known for its land speed records. You can drive out on the salt flats if you want. The Donner party passed this way seeking a short cut and ran out of water in the salt flats. They lost oxen, which led to time lost, which led to their late arrival in the Sierra Nevadas, and hence the tragedy that resulted in cannibalism to survive the winter. Interesting little known fact.
