Round the World 2004 - TWICE!

London Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

This year was amazing, we managed to do not one but TWO round the world. Once going west using STAR Alliance and another one going east using OneWorld Alliance. Check Photos on each stop!

The first round the world trip did not start with a flying start.. Not something that excites you at all when you are about to start the journey of lifetime.. The Airline Varig taxied on the runway at Heathrow and returned back to Gate. Pilot did not pass on any information and 2 hours later they started serving alcohol to passengers which made it even worse. After 5 hours siting on the seats they finally announced that flight is cancelled and that everyone will be put in Hotels near heathrow. Thats not all, you had to take your luggage with you and find your name on list (which did not exist).. a complete "Chaos."

Anyway, next morning everyone just arrived at airport around 10am (Varig were not passing any info in proper manner and passengers did not want to miss flights)..

Never ever (unless there is no other option available), am I flying Varig again in future.

This experience with Varig and then later with Thai has made me believe that on average the majority of carriers on OneWorld alliance are better than most of the Star Alliance ones..

Passenger's in Chaos at Heathrow...

Since BA gets my full points, it serves my requirements. BA has most direct flights out of London and they generally stick to their customer service. They always keep you informed of everything going on! I agree AA is second worst after Varig on my list and that ANZ is the only star for me in STAR!

I have no problem with Star Alliance as Lufthansa are ok and Singapore Airlines are class. As are Air New Zealand. With oneworld, BA's hopeless, AA's hopeless, the only one that can redeem oneworld is Cathay!
