I had the possibility to do a quick visit to Ireland. I was really looking forward to it because it was my first time.

Put a Cork in it!!

The walking Bridge between Union Quay and Morrison´s Quay

Before I went to bed had at least one Guinness and some nice G&T´s. The last thing I did before I hit the sack was to look at the map that Hertz had given me when I rented the car. I looked at the map and decided for Cork. Again I don’t know why but I had probably heard about it somewhere. Cork it had to be. Along with the key-card to open the door they had put and reduction card for the breakfast from 22 € to 15 € ad I decided that I would check it out when I woke up.

I woke up early and went down to the restaurant; I was not the only one that wanted to exploit Ireland. The breakfast was great and I had the possibility to read the newspaper; here I found out that Dublin would be crowded due to the harbour festival and the flower festival, so I kept my original plan; Cork. On top of this I found out that Monday was a bank holiday weekend so everything was a bit upside down.

I took the car, still having fun driving with the steering wheel in the wrong side, but it was no big thing. I found my GPS which I always bring and put in Cork; 264 km, I had better to get started.

Cork was a nice city, I drove a tour in the city and then decided to park the car at the harbour on Union Quay which was one of the only streets where I had found parking spaces. I walked towards the city centre enjoying the atmosphere and the livly shopping support by a group of Inca’s playing the pan-flute.

I walked around trying to find a hairdresser, but in Cork they apparently concentrated on female cutting. I walked the entire city centre and found out that I was somewhat hungry and decided to walk in to a restaurant in the Huguenot quarter in Cork. The lunch was ok and I had a possibility to look into the Ireland map and again and I found the city of Crookhaven which sounded crazy in my ear.

The Woodford
After having walked the streets of Cork for some time I felt like lunch. I chose for no reason The Woodford. The Woodford is a fairly big pub in the heart of Cork's central shopping area. It looks tiny from the outside but is actually cavern-like inside with high ceilings and while it is essentially one space, there are quiet nooks here and there. Looking at the floor I which was well used I saw indication of some great and wild nights in this place.

The pub was fairly empty when I entered and the service where very swift. I got a table and a large glass of ice water with. I found it a nice gesture to give a free glass of water and I was actually very thirsty.

I look at the menu and found that The Woodford offers modern good value dishes like soups, hot and cold sandwiches, burgers and salads as well as a few bigger main course dishes. I chose a carbonara which were priced at 12,95 €. The food was really good and I was satisfied.

I liked the place and could come back if I was in Cork again, but next time I would come in an evening. It might be a Tuesday, since the receipt had written that there are acoustic sessions every Tuesday with Gavin Moore.
Here you can find it!
