Another day, another country!
In keeping with the fine tradition of visiting as many countries as possible, we made the short hop from Nice to Monaco for the day. It was just a short ride on the train, and the subterranean station in Monaco is worth the trip alone.
For some reason we decided to put on our poshest clothes for going to Monaco, which meant that Zoe ended up with really bad blisters from walking in impractical shoes, and had to spend most of the rest of our honeymoon wearing her trainers! I was still hobbling from too much stupid dancing at the wedding reception!
We headed for the royal palace and did the tour around the rooms which are open to the public. You can't take photos inside, unfortunately. There were some fairly grand rooms, although the overall scale of the place was a little smaller than I'd expected. From the ramparts on the walk up to the palace you get tremendous views over most of the country (not something you get to say very often), and you could see where the grandstands were being set up for the forthcoming formula 1 grand prix.
From the palace we hopped on a bus and headed up to the casino area, skirting round the harbour with lots of huge yachts moored. The day had gone really quickly and so we didn't have long at the casino. As a result we decided not to pay to £10 entrance fee for only fifteen minutes inside! We just had a pleasant stroll around the gardens outside instead, before heading back to the station for the train home.
