A fantastic lunch (and other things we did in Paris!)
OK: the title's a bit flippant; we did lots of great things in Paris. But we like food!
We rounded off our honeymoon with a few days in Paris. We got the TGV up from Avignon. I expected to be a bit more impressed by the TGV; I was quite looking forward to going on it for the first time, but it turned out to just be a train! (We're always slagging off our own railway system in the UK, and hearing on the news about how great it is in France and Germany, so I expected miracles!)
We spent the next couple of days doing some of the sights of Paris, but at a leisurely pace. We wandered around to see the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. We spent hours in the Louvre and barely scratched the surface. We followed the advice in the guidebook and bought tickets in advance from a music shop, rather than queueing up at the main entrance. The tickets entitled us to go round to the side entrance and bypass all of the queues. They were slightly more expensive, but it was worth it.
We did manage to find some really nice restaurants and had some lovely cakes. For one lunch in particular we went to an expensive restaurant and had their three course set menu. It was 28 euro a head, and we spent another 28 euro on a half bottle of wine (ouch). It was all exceedingly nice though, and still an economical way to try out food in a really good restaurant.
