Hobart to Sydney
I love flying and one of the things I love most about flying is what I see out the window of the plane. This is some of what I saw on my way from Hobart to Sydney, some very pretty scenery.
I flew out of Hobart where the clouds streaked across the sky, and I got a great views of Mount Wellington with Hobart spread out along its base and along the shores of the Derwent River. I couldn’t quite see my place, but could see the bay near my home as well as the building where I work (not that I really wanted to see that :)) further along the river.
When I first flew into Hobart in the 90’s, the scenery was very different. It was all lush and green with gorgeous patchwork fields as far as the eye could see. There are still the patchwork fields, but they are no longer lush and green, most of them are in shades of brown or fading to yellow from green.
There is the odd green patch where a farmer has some green crop or other growing, but they are few and far between. We flew over Bass Straight, the 240 km wide body of water at its narrowest point that separates Tasmania from mainland Australia - or as some Tasmanians call it, the north island of Tasmania. Once over Bass Straight we crossed the coast of Victoria and continued north to the Murray River that acts as the border between Victoria and New South Wales. I had a great view of the Snowy Mountains where there was a smattering of snow, building up for the ski season to start officially on the long weekend in June.
Then I saw it, my favourite city, my home, Sydney. It was a bit hazy over the city today, but as we flew closer to the ocean, it cleared up and I had some wonderful views of the Royal National Park and the southern suburbs and beaches.
I hope you enjoy the scenery.
