The drive back to Waikiki
...We drove back to Waikiki via the same road back through the centre of the island where I took a wrong turn after breakfast, along the way we passed pretty islands including one that looked like a turtle and Chinaman’s Hat Island where four navy helicopters were flying in formation, making a spectacular sight. We followed the road around the island, driving in the same direction the helicopters flew and managed to see them a few times on our way home. As I was driving, I had to pull the car over if I wanted to take a photo, and quite often, I was too late for the good shot, but still managed one or two.
We stopped for lunch in a little roadside diner that was not worth remembering the name of because the food was so average, so I can’t even tell you which place to avoid. I did take a photo of the ‘decoration’ on the table though, so if you call into a roadside diner in Hawaii and see these little palm trees made from coconut shells, hop back in your car and go elsewhere.
I thoroughly enjoyed my last day in Hawaii and felt spoilt by her fantastic weather, beautiful spirit and charming locals.
Tomorrow is an early morning for us out to the airport for our flight back to Sydney and home...
