Bubba Gump Shrimp Co

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co is a themed restaurant serving all things Shrimp. For any of you who have seen the movie Forrest Gump, you will be familiar with the name. The restaurant is similar to the Hard Rock Cafe and Planet Hollywood chains, in that the walls are covered in memorabilia from the movie and of course, there is a shop for you to purchase key rings, t-shirts, caps other souvenirs with the name of the restaurant and lines from the movie on them.

On my last trip to Hawaii, I ate at the Maui branch and thoroughly enjoyed my meal then, and am pleased to announce I was just as happy with my meal this time too.

I started with the mouth watering Cajun Shrimp - Shrimp sautéed in hot and spicy Cajun butter sauce with a helping of garlic bread that I used to sop up the delicious sauce. Mmmm, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. My main meal was a delectable combination of Clam Chowder and a salad, which although it was absolutely scrumptious, I could not eat it all.

Before my main meal arrived, I had filled up on a luscious Alabama Sweet Smoothie. As I was driving, I had to pass on the cocktails :( and tried this crazy sounding shake; with Peanut Butter, Chocolate and Vanilla Frozen Yoghurt this ‘drink’ filled me right up. I hummed and hawed for ages whether or not to have this drink, but with the strange combination of ingredients, I couldn’t resist. I am happy I tried it and it was really yummy, but it was too much.

Now the Piece de resistance was desert. Oh my God! Wait until you see this thing. Called ‘That Chocolate Thing!’ and the menu states, “We’re not sure what to call it, but we know you’ll love it! A special jar of warm flourless chocolate cake, topped with vanilla ice cream, and drizzled with raspberry sauce. You’ll say, “I have to have THAT CHOCOLATE THING!”” and I did. We both did; neither of us finished ours but boy oh boy did we have fun trying.

We had a wonderful waitress who was friendly and helpful without trying hard. I don’t like eating in restaurants where the staff is friendly in a forced way, and in America because they rely so heavily on their tips, I find this quite regularly.

It was a great meal in a great restaurant and I would definitely eat here again, it is just a shame that it is in the shopping centre.
