Aloha and mahalo Hawaii

Delayed :(

Our flight from of Honolulu was due out at 0915 this morning so we had an early start to be at the airport 2 hours prior to check in. We packed, paid our bill at the hotel last night and returned the hire car yesterday as well, so all we needed to do this morning was roll out of bed, shower, pull on some clothes and jump in a cab for our ride out to the airport. There was already a line for check in when we arrived at the Jetstar counter and the couple in the line in front of us informed us there was a delay. Yippee! Just what we all want to hear. :(

We stood in line for a while chatting with our fellow passengers until the check in desks opened and we were allowed through immigration.

Our flight ended up being just over an hour late; we were given a window seat and the seat next to it.

Honolulu airport, it is open air and had a wonderful tropical (if stark) feel to it. There are palm trees outside the open windows and the temperature is warm.
Mel wanted the window seat so the photos I took were from leaning over her and holding my camera up to the window.  After seeing all the planes fly out of Honolulu through the week and feeling sorry for the people on the plane, it was my turn to leave. I had a strange feeling, like Déjà Vu but not. It was almost as if I were on the other side of a mirror looking out; instead of sitting on the beach, looking up into the sky watching the planes fly out, I was in the sky flying out on the plane watching the people sitting on the beach. I love Hawaii, and I was sorry to be leaving, but I know I will be back and I know Hawaii will welcome me warmly (both weather wise and hospitality wise).

After our ten and a half hour flight, which was already an hour late, and some more time travel, in the ten and a half hours in flight, I lost a day and arrived into Sydney at around 5pm on the 28th, just as a storm hit Sydney airport.

Honolulu airport, it is open air and had a wonderful tropical (if stark) feel to it. There are palm trees outside the open windows and the temperature is warm.
We landed safely but due to safety reasons our bags stayed on the aircraft for another hour or so, quite frankly I lost track of time, I was just a little tired and delirious, I just found a seat and took my book out of my bag and read until the carrousel started to move with our bags on it. After waiting until the second last bag for Mel’s bag to make an appearance, it was off through customs and out of the airport.

This is where Mel and I went our separate ways. I spent a few days staying with a friend in Sydney before flying back to Hobart and Mel headed back home to Goulburn.

So until next time, aloha Hawaii and your wonderful people; and Mahalo for your kindness and generosity.

It is always sad to leave behind a wonderful place like Hawaii and its even more wonderful people. On the other hand, it is nice to revisit friends and being back home in familiar surroundings. So, Welcome home! :D
