After a weekend visit to Pattaya, I decided to head up to Chiang Mai, where it's cooler, and hopefully, people aren't so eager to (blatantly) rip me off. After a night in Bangkok, I got two new French friends to tag along and join Awesome Force Deluxe for a lil while. =)

The sleeper car on the train we got was a far cry from the nice, cushy, comfortable-looking bed in the booklet at the travel agent, but by that time, I was too tired to care. After a long, bumpy 15-hour ride with many unscheduled stops, we arrived at our destination. Being the lazy bastard that I am, we hadn't booked a room yet; deciding to wing it..The first guest house that I called had a room for us, so I requested that they send a ride, spelling my name V-I-C-T-O-R. She read it back..P-I-B-T-O. I responded, yes, perfect. I figured I would recognize Pibto on the sign when the driver showed up. 20 minutes later, I'm eyein a driver that's been waiting, with a sign that says 'Rico.' I ask him if he's goin to Lai Thai, and he responds in the positive. All things considered, I suppose Rico is 4/5's of the letters in my name, just out of order. And now the girls won't stop calling me Rico in heavily accented English. Ugh.

So, we check in to our guest house, which is actually really nice, and proceed to do all the touristy stuff that Chiang Mai has to offer...
