Peñalara Nature Reserve
The Peñalara's Summit, Cirques and Lakes Nature Reserve, commonly known as Peñalara Nature Reserve, is a protected area located on the central zone of the mountain system of Guadarrama, to the south-east of Peñalara's peak (2,430 m), in Rascafría's municipal term and northwest of the Community of Madrid.
It is possible to come easily by train from Madrid with the line C8b, up to Cercedilla and from there in the line C9 up to the Puerto de Cotos.
The park is accessible from Puerto de Cotos, the region's center of tourism and point of departure for all routes crossing the reserve.
Especially popular on the holidays, the reserve provides a venue for hiking, mountain climbing and skiing.
