Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., New Orleans
Forrest Gump is my favorite movie of all time. Every time I travel to a city that has a Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., I eat there. The menus vary at each restaurant. New Orleans' menu had Shrimp Gumbo as an appetizer. I had no idea what Gumbo was, but I ordered it anyway. It was so good. I got the "cup", which really came out in a normal size bowl, and I only counted three pieces of shrimp in the whole thing. It really was good though.
I ordered the Coconut Shrimp, which is what I always get, and it came with coleslaw and french fries. They have a mango dipping sauce for the shrimp, and it was really good. Between my friends and I, we had so much extra food. The portions of some things are plentiful. We took our left overs to go, and gave them to some homeless men.
All Bubba Gump restaurants have a gift shop as soon as you walk in. They sale shirts, magnets, ping pong paddles, playing cards, DVD's, the soundtrack, key chains, stickers, temporary tattoos, collector's glasses, etc. etc. The location of the restaurant is pretty much written on everything, like the Hard Rock Cafes.
The restaurants all have movie memorabilia showcased through out the restaurant. This one had Forrest's white suit that he was wearing while sitting on the bench, waiting for the bus.
A lot of the drinks that you can order come with a souvenir cup, included in the price. My friend got one, but it didn't say New Orleans on it which I thought was weird. I have one from Chicago, and it has it written on there.
A fun thing at this restaurant are the license plates that are on each table. Everyone has a blue one that says Run Forrest Run, and a red one, that says Stop Forrest Stop. Whenever you need a waiter to come to your table for anything, you flip it over so the red one is on display, and within' seconds, someone is at your table asking you what you need.
I really liked this restaurant, and I thought the food was really good. These restaurants don't take reservations and they are usually pretty busy, so I would stay away during the busy dinner times. Also, the Hard Rock Cafe- New Orleans is literally right across the street.

Country Inn and Suites- New Orleans
I stayed at the above hotel on my recent trip to New Orleans. I really enjoyed all aspects of it. The location is really great, and safe. It's located on Magazine St. with Gravier as a cross street. It is only two blocks from Canal Street, and only a couple of more to the French Quarter. It's about a 12-15 minute walk to Bourbon Street. We actually walked from Bourbon Street, back to the hotel at about three in the morning, and it was totally safe. If you walk out the door and turn right, Harrah's casino is about 3 blocks down.
The hotel itself has a secured entrance after midnight, you have to use your room key to get in, so that is nice. This hotel offers smoking and non-smoking rooms.
The people at the front desk are very nice, and they were very knowledgeable on directions and locations. They actually gave us a map, and drew perimeters on what was "safe" in the area, and places to stay away from.
The hotel has a little gift shop for snacks and forgotten toiletries. There is a small bar in the large lobby area, that has a daily happy hour. The bartender was more than happy to give us our drinks in "to go" cups, so we could take them outside with us on our way to the french quarter. There is a pool area right off from the bar. We didn't go out to the pool, but it looked nice.
Our room was nice and clean. There was a desk area that offers free internet for those of you who travel with your laptop, and the hotel lobby has wireless internet as well.
The hotel was very quiet, we didn't really hear any noise outside our room, or outside on the streets.
There was a little vending area down the hall that had ice, washer/dryer, and a soda machine.
The hotel itself doesn't have a parking lot, we used their valet service, which was I think $23.00 a day, with in and out privileges.
I really enjoyed this hotel, we were thinking about coming back to New Orleans later this year, and I will probably stay here again.
