We started our next day at the Trevi Fountain. We needed to pick up our tickets to Midnight Mass at the Vatican and the nun we needed to get them from was at a small church near the fountain. After picking up the tickets and being told a few things about dress code (Its winter sister I wasnt going to go naked!) we headed over to the fountain. My 10x Zoom did a pretty good job on getting a nice shot of the center piece. I also made a composite picture to get the whole fountain in view.

From there we wandered over the backside of the Colosseum for lunch. Samantha ordered the fettuchini alfradeo and we all wanted to steal it! Oddly enough for the rest of the trip we couldnt find it anywhere! Also this marked another place that didnt take travelers checks.
Basilica of Maxentius in the Roman Forum. Where my friends are standing used to be a colossal statue of Constantine (remnants of which are now in a courtyard of the Palazzo dei Conservatori of the Musei Capitolini) See tomorrows pictures...
What a hassle ! Next time its credit cards for me. I paid to get the checks, paid a high exchange rate on top of it and then when I do use them ( or rather when I can !) people want to charge you another fee! Id rather take the 1-3% the credit cards charge next time!

After lunch we went around the Colosseum to The Roman Forum, getting a snapshot of the Arch of Constantine along the way. We pretty much followed the walking tour in Frommers but we started at a different spot. It was still pretty neat seeing all the ruins that had been around for so long. One that was particuarly interesting to me was Basilica of Maxentius. I took a picture with Sam, Charles and Jesse standing in the middle. Where they are standing used to be a colossal statue of Constantine.
Temple of Saturn in the Roman Forum.
The remnants of are now in a courtyard of the Palazzo dei Conservatori of the Musei Capitolini on Capitoline Hill which you can only see if you pay to go in the museum and then exit out on to the courtyard. I got a picture of the pieces the next day (see tomorrow) after accidentally going into the exit ( I didnt know I swear!) but I only got one picture :(

My favorite picture of the Roman Forum was the Temple of Saturn. I got a nice shot of it sillouetted against the sky. You wouldnt think it was winter with the nice weather but I suppose Italy doesnt get to cold anyway. At the end of our day we took a break by the Circus Maximus which is now largly just a field with a few ruins. We walked along the Tiber and through the "Jewish Ghetto" to get back to our place and get some needed time off our feet! This of course was mostly spent on our Nintendo DS's playing Mario Cart. Much cursing ensued as that game, much like Mario Smash Brothers, is nothing with out the trash talk !
