Cant say the weather was bad!

Today we headed over to the Vatican. The museums were nuts! You could probably spend weeks in there and still not see everything. We kind of rushed through so we could see the Sistine Chapel. You arent allowed to take pictures inside the chapel so I had to do a quick blocked one. It was really something to see and pictures dont do it justice. The scale of it alone is amazing. I was also surprised how bright the colors still were tho I had heard they had done restorations on it somewhat recently.

We had lunch in the Vatican Museum cafateria. There was some kind of meal deal going on where you got like a main, two sides, salad, bread and fruit and cheese together. We were so hungry and it was all really good! The best part was when Jesse grabbed what he thought was white grape juice and turned out to be white wine.

. White Wine in a kids juice box size! Perfect! Why dont they have these at home????

After that we went over to the underground tombs where they have the popes buried. There was a long line going by the Tomb of John Paul II and I was a little pissed that the one pictures I was able to get before being shuffled by was blurry! I also wasnt too happy that now armed with plenty of camera batteries the inside of the basilica was SO dark! Granted it was like 4:30 pm and getting a touch dark outside (it was winter after all ) but they could have turned some lights on! So I guess all my fabulous photos of the Vatican will have to wait until my next trip.

As much as I like Rome I think the best part for me was the Vatican. I could tell Charles just adored the ancient Rome part and the Coliseum but I really wished we had time to go and do the whole Vatican. I probably could have sat in the Sistine Chapel all day !

David says:
I got 2 days in Rome coming up, don't know how I'm going to fit everything in. Sistine Chapel is priority number 1 for sure.
