After 5 months in the USA it's time to settle down for a while, build the finances back up... and hopefully have some adventures along the way!

over the sea to Skye

Loch Cluanie

Today was the day that Mum decided it would be a good idea to drive right across Scotland (well she made the decision a while ago, and I have been complaining that her travel planning skills need tweaking - just because the UK is smaller than Australia doesn't mean you can get everywhere in an hour or two).

We left Peterhead & took a few detours for old houses or towns or areas where various ancestors were known to have habited.  We were basically driving through the southern Scottish Highlands, which are of course fairly impressive mountains and lochs etc.  We drove along an extensive amount of Loch Ness (apparently it's the largest body of water in the UK, and it certainly seemed to go on for a while), although we didn't get a glimpse of any monster.  We have eventually ended up on the Isle of Skye, where the most entertaining thing has been the look of confusion when we asked if there might be any salad-type-item we could purchase with our takeaway fish & chips.  We were informed that they serve them the "traditional British" way (ie: fish + chips).

We're staying in Portree, which is a sweet little island town up on cliffs looking out over the water.
