We left Newcastle yesterday afternoon and took the drive north into Scotland (we had to stop so that Mum could pose next to the Scottish border). Along the way we stopped at Bamburgh Castle, which was quite impressive from the outside (but we didn't go in) - built right on the edge of a beach, so fabulous views. We also took a quick drive out to Holy Island, but couldn't stay long as you can only get across the causeway at low tide, so it was pretty much just across and back.
We eventually made it to Edinburgh and met up with Luz & Andrew for dinner, and I stayed the night on their very comfy couch. This morning Mum was off doing research, so I went off to explore Edinburgh Castle (after driving around for nearly an hour trying to find parking - the car park at the Castle is only available half of the year, as it takes them 3mths to put up all the seating/lights/etc for the famous Edinburgh Tattoo & another 3mths to take it all down again).
The Castle was very interesting - great spot right on top of a massive rock, and quite good views across Edinburgh (although the weather wasn't fabulous).
And then it was time to continue our journey north, up into parts of Scotland that most people don't even know exist, and so we arrived at Peterhead.
