Near Deba walking on the side of the clift
Mountain roads again! The first few kilometers of the day were quite pleasant. We stopped at Zumaia for "café con leche grande". Then, we got into a path where only mountain goats (and pilgrims) ventured. In fact, the goats seemed pretty surprised to see us there! It was very steep. Our walking sticks were very useful not to fall. I remember thinking of Eve the girl I had met in Irun...There was no way she'd go through this path with her enormous backpack... Hoped nothing bad happened to her, but I'll never know... All day our path went up and down steeps hills. However, the wonderful view of the sea was well worth for the pain and efforts.
Deba
We ended up in a steep trail going through deep forest , it was totally crazy not to say dangerous...I got scratches all over my harms and legs. And finally, we got out of there to follow the road to town. Cars were going fast and there was no sidewalk... Scary! When we arrived in Deba, a small city by the sea, we were half dead... but we were not done walking for the day! We had to find the albergue, a groceries store, a restaurant... we end up going across the city several times before going to bed.
The alberge was smaller than the other I had seen. It was almost full. There was 3 or 4 rows of 3 storey bunk beds. Only one tiny washroom with a shower. We took turns to use it... by the time I got my turn there was no more hot water and the room was very dirty.
I had to climb to the third storey with my stuff...
