Trying not to get wet.

We went to our YHA hostel on the sea front in Kaikoura. After bumping my head on the taxi roof and paying an extra few dollars for our 'twin room' ("we have saved you a twin room" she said at the desk "because you are a couple"...great we thought...but she meant a room with two bunk beds!!! Twin room??? We may as well be in a room with 6 bunk beds!! Nevermind, we had a room that was ALL to ourselves for the first time in 6 weeks or so.) we settled in and went to explore the town.

Kaikoura is a small town where 'the mountains meet the sea'. It is got to be one of the most picturesque places I have ever been. We could sit in the hostel lounge and eat our dinner whilst looking out at the snow capped mountains and the children playing by the seaside. If you ever wanted a good place to bring up your children, this was it...fresh, clean air, quite roads and not a Mc Donald's in sight. It was the place we needed to be, because we need some rest.

We spent the two days there, walking along by the sea, watching locals fish with net baskets and basically just looking (in awe) at the surroundings. It was so peaceful and just what the doctor ordered....And I was looking forward to getting our washing back when we next got on the train...
