The oh-so-grand and mystical Stonehenge
October 28, 2006
For the last day of our adventures while she was in London, Aysha and I
took a planned tour thing-y to Stonehenge and Bath. We left super early
in the morning and took a beautiful bus ride out to Wiltshire. It was a
typical cloudy day in England, which added to the supposed allure of
the place. Seeing something that's supposed to be one of the world's
greatest wonders is always kind of bizzare, because you feel like once
you see it, something magical and unexplainable should be going on
inside of you. But that's not really how it worked. We got there, got
our little audio tour thingys with a voice that sounded a lot like Tim
Curry telling us all of the stories about why and how it was created,
and how no one really knows. They think it probably has something to do
with the cycles of the moon and the sun, because of the way the stones
were positioned, and because of how many there are, etc. It was all
kind of bizzare, and I did definitely feel like there is no way that
human beings got those HUGE rocks on top of each other, but after I
thought about that, I was kind of done being there. Something like
Stonehenge should work some intrigue up for you even if you haven't
been there, unless you don't believe it's real. I guess that seeing it
right in front of me did make me think about it more, but I don't feel
like it necessarily changed my life or anything... I suppose it's one
of the few real sources of magic and mysterey that we can cling on
to.
