Grand Hotel in Taipei
I took one of the daily tours to ChiuFen village in the northeast coast of Taiwan today. My friend dropped me off at the Grand Hotel in Taipei
. This hotel has been around for a long time, and it is a very impressive building in traditional Chinese architecture. The inside of the lobby is worth seeing too, not just for the local arts but also for the architecture and decoration. A small tourist van picked me up at the predetermined time, and we drove around Taipei to pick up a few more tourists before heading out to the coast. It was raining harder as we head out of Taipei, by the time we got to our first stop, Nanya, the waves were pounding the coast. Nanya is just a spot with some strange rock formations, erroded by the waves. Then we head inland a bit to ChiuFen, a small gold mining village turned tourist destination. It is on a hill with a narrow walkway/street lined with various shops and restaurants. They have special merchandise for sale which you don't find everywhere. The village was the location of an old movie, and the street gave tourists a glimpse into the lifestyle of an old village. I bought an ocarina in one of the ocarina shops, having played Zelda the Nintendo game, the ocarina has a special attraction to me. The girl at the shop played it really well. I wish I had bought a CD with ocarina songs...
